Worsted weight yarn
Size 5 needles (cable)
Size 3 needles (cable)

Using size 5 needles: Cast on 10 stitches (5 stitches on each needle) using Judy’s Magic Cast On method

TOE:
Knit 1 round
Round 2: (first needle) K1, M1, K8, M1, K1; (second needle) K1, M1, K8, M1, K1
Round 3: K all stitches
Repeat rounds 2&3 until there are 32 stitches (16 stitches on each needle)

Mark the beginning of the row and place a marker between stitches 16 & 17. Stitches 17-32 (16 stitches) will be the sole of the slipper and that needle will always have 16 stitches on it.

TOP OF SLIPPER:

Row 1: K1, M1, K7, M1, K7, M1, K1 (19 stitches on first needle); K all stitches on second needle (sole) (16 stitches)

Row 2: K all stitches

Row 3: K1, M1, K7, M1, K2, M1, K7, M1, K1 (22 stitches on first needle): K all stitches on second needle (sole) 16 stitches)

TOP OF SLIPPER:

Row 1: Beginning horseshoe cable row on top of slipper: K6, P1, slip 2 stitches on to cable needle and bring to the front of the work, K2, K the two stitches off of the cable needle, slip the next two stitches on to the cable needle and place it to the back of the work, K2, K the two stitches off of the cable needle, P1, K6

K all 16 sole stitches

Row 2: Top of slipper: K6, P1, K8, P1, K6; Sole of slipper: K all stitches

Repeat Row 2 for 5 more rows (6 rows)

Repeat Rows 1 & 2 for 5 total horseshoes.

HEEL & ANKLE:

This is where you stop knitting in the round and need to divide the stitches equally on both needles. The beginning of the row will take place in the center of the last horseshoe cable.


Knit the knit stitches and purl the purl stitches (stockinet)

I reduce on the purl side every until I have 32 stitches on my needles: P1, P2tog, P to the last 3 stitches, P2 together, P1

Once you have 32 stitches on your needles; stockinet  @17 rows ending on knit side.



HEEL CUP:

Place a marker between stitches 11 & 12, and between stitches 21 & 22. You should have 11 stitches on each end of the row and 10 stitches between the markers in the center of the row.

P11, slip marker, P2tog (5 times), slip marker, P11

K all stitches

P11, slip marker, P2tog, P1, P2tog, slip marker, P11

Knit all stitches

P11, slip marker, P3tog, slip maker, P11

Cut yarn leaving enough to Kitchener the back seam together; weave in remaining yarn.

ANKLE:

Pick up stitches evenly around the ankle edge of the slipper. K1, P1 ribbing for 4 rows.

Switch to size 3 needles and continue ribbing for 2 more rows. Bind off using Elizabeth Zimmerman’s stretchy bind off.

Weave in all loose ends.

Place cardboard inside the slipper and paint bottom with slip resistant coating.
